I was wondering, how do you go from being a mom, to an employee to just... yourself? I have such a hard time switching between roles. I can't seem to stop thinking about work even when I'm nowhere near it. Advice!!
Honestly, it's not something you're going to be able to change overnight and it's not necessarily going to be easy. Take little steps. Figure out a routine that works best for you and allows you more time to relax and less time to stress. For one, if you procrastinate a lot, work on that a bit here and there and in the long run it will help you a lot.
It takes practice and I'm not 100% when it comes to keeping things seperate but Mr.Man gives some great points. You need to do things that calm you down to make going from one role to the next that much easier. You're going to have days where no matter how hard you try, it doesn't work because something major is due soon or you forgot to complete a certain task but don't let those days hold you back. No one is perfect :)
There's not a simple answer. Everyone does it differently. I give myself a transition period of about 30 minutes where I read or do something to kind of 'clear my slate'. It helps a lot.

Lovely Posted at 03:10 on Thu, 10/27/2011Practice, practice, practice. That's all I can tell you. It's hard adjusting to new things but over time; things fall into place.
