Remedies for Insomnia

 I'm not sure if I technically have insomnia or if I'm just overly excited lately about life and getting things done but I barely sleep anymore. Any tips on how to get to sleep faster and feel more rested?
A few things about me:
I haven't been drinking caffeine and I'm allowing myself at least 8 hours of sleep a night. I read before bed, and try not to eat right before lying down. My diet is pretty healthy lately, and I've been working out more. It's just so hard to shut my brain off.

 How long have you been affected by these sleep issues? I know you say they're recent but has this happened in the past. Sometimes stress (or adrenaline) can cause you to have issues with sleep. Try to avoid sugar and give yourself plenty of relaxation time before you actually try to go to sleep. Many people try to force themselves to sleep and this just makes falling asleep harder.
Also, warm milk or tea help some people.

 I haven't been consistently dealing with sleep issues, but lately I have a lot going on. I think the same happened in the past. I think you may be right. I'm probably rushing into falling asleep instead of relaxing into it. Great point!

 One thing you could try to

 One thing you could try to do and trust me; it won't be fun is to set a time you absolutely have to wake up each day. Even if you don't get much sleep, wake up at that time. Eventually you'll be so tired from the schedule that you'll fall asleep without a problem. This can be hard to fit in around work but it really does help. Your whole life will change!

 I wanted to add something to that. It's important to go to bed at the same time as well. You may want to start doing what Mom2B said, and then as you become tired earlier, set a time that you absolutely have to go to bed. The 8 hour rule is good; but may not fit your personal needs. Some people require more or less so keep that in mind :) It may take some time to get used to it but it will happen.
