How much of a savings cushion do you think would be best to have if you are about to have a child? (Whether adopted or not) I think this is something most people don't plan very well. Just curious what you guys think.
This is a very hard question to answer. Of course, saving money is very hard. I would say at least a few grant but $10,000 is the number that pops into my mind. I know most people cannot do that but it would be nice. I wish I had that much money as a cushion!!
I've always been told that it's a good idea to try and save 40% of your income but this is hard for many people around the world. So many of us are living paycheck to paycheck without having much, if any to spare.
It's hard to pick an exact number because it depends on how much you make, what kind of bills you have etc. I would say, the more you can save up; the better. There are even people who have no savings whatsoever when they have children and they somehow figure out how to afford everything. I think a lot of this kinda stuff will come to you once you have kids :)
