I was wondering, if you are dating someone but want to adopt a child yourself; giving only you the legal rights etc, is that something you can do or would that be frowned upon? It's more a random question.. not something I'm actually planning on doing.

I don't see why there'd be
NewMommy Posted at 19:34 on Tue, 08/23/2011I don't see why there'd be any problems as long as the couple agrees on this. I see why someone would do it, but I bet it would be hard for the partner. Could you imagine later on in life if they did break up; the other 'parent' would probably wish they would have had custody as well. This situation could get pretty messy in my opinion. I think getting a good lawyer and having every laid out legally would be an absolute must.
Since single adoption is
Amy Posted at 03:20 on Fri, 08/26/2011Since single adoption is becoming more of a norm all the time, I don't see how this would cause any issues. As I mentioned in a previous post, it will probably be harder on you (the individual adopting) because it could upset your partner and such but other than that I think it would be fine. I've never heard anything negative about a situation like this.. I'm guessing it hasn't happened often.
That's something you can
Bubblez Posted at 02:58 on Wed, 10/05/2011That's something you can do :) I'm sure some people would find it strange but I think it makes sense. It's similar to a couple that gets together and one has a child from a previous relationship. I see no issue with it.
I don't see why there
Zoey Posted at 18:49 on Wed, 10/12/2011I don't see why there would be anything wrong with it. Now, it may be easier if you're not married to the person. That's just my theory though. I'm sure some people would probably frown upon it because people like to frown upon many things lol but if you're happy and the child is taken care for.. I don't see any problems with it :)
Really interesting question.
You know, I never really
Lovely Posted at 15:53 on Thu, 11/10/2011You know, I never really gave this any thought before but it's something that would be allowed. I don't see it being frowned upon at all.. except maybe by family members of the person you're with.
