It seems like more and more teenagers are becoming pregnant all the time. What kinds of things do you do to educate your children so they do not get pregnant?
I think the most important thing you can do is educate them. Build a foundation that has them thinking about the future and respecting themselves. There are plenty of books that give great advice for such things. Children will look at your example so do things that show them how to act and when they respect and trust you; they'll follow. Be their friend as well as parent.
Education and gaining trust are key. Without proper education, kids are going to be more likely to go out and have sex without knowing the consequences. Now, the timing for sex ed is a bit tricky but I think you'll know when your child needs to know more based on their questions.
With so much pressure for kids to have sex at such early ages it's important to get involved and allow them to trust you enough to know they can come to you first with any questions/concerns they may have. Now is definitely a scary time to have teens or preteens but with the proper input, your child will be fine.
That's a really tough question. All you can really do is be there for them and make sure to educate them on sex. It's a really tough issue, and I feel very lucky that I don't have to worry about this just yet. I have years to prepare for this one.
Children aren't shown that sex leads to consequences. Explaining to them (when the time is right) how not only can you become pregnant if you're not safe, but you can also catch things that may alter your life forever are important. The media and what they see and hear show the fun sides of having sex but there isn't always the consequences portrayed.
