Emotional Support

Alone Time

I wanted to remind those of you with children how important it is to get a break from time to time to have some alone time. I know it's not always easy but it makes a big difference. Even taking 30 minutes to watch a comedy you love, to relieve some stress is a must! You'll feel so much better if you do!!

Unable to Keep Child

I've been thinking a lot lately what it must feel like to have to get rid of a child you gave birth to. I imagine there are so many different cases; maybe the mother isn't stable enough at the time (maybe because of drugs, financial situation etc) or she just isn't ready to have a child and is scared.
Has anyone here been through that? It breaks my heart to think how much that must eat away at someone over the years...

What do they have against adoption?

I've come across many individuals who don't seem to agree with adoption. I don't understand where they're coming from. Could anyone enlighten me? I've had people straight up tell me, I should have my own children, not adopt. I'm seriously confused by this because in my eyes, I'm helping a child have a better life. Am I missing something obvious?

Break Ups

Has anyone here been through a bad break-up while they were in the process of adopting a child or after they already had completed the whole process? How did that affect your decision and the child? This has been on my mind because I was with a guy that I thought was going to be with me forever and then things suddenly changed. I can't imagine if that would have happened and we had a child.

College

How do you feel about school? Do you want your children to go to college (whether or not you have children now) or would you be okay with them skipping college altogether?
I'm really glad I have a ways to go before I have to deal with anything like this but I would really perfer to have my child go to college so he can get a better job.

Bullying

I wanted to bring up a topic very close to my heart; bullying. I was bullied a lot as a child and without the proper support from parents children may deal with bullying for very long periods of time. I've seen so many stories of kids commiting suicide due to being bullied. I think more needs to be done by the school (as well as parents) to get these situations under control so children can feel safe while at school. School is supposed to be a good environment, not a scary one.

Can't Have Children

My boyfriend and I have been trying to have children but it's simply not working. It's been a very upsetting process and I wanted to keep trying but the whole thing has been weighing down on me. Is there anyone else here that cannot have children? I was hoping to speak with someone going through a similar situation. I just feel like less of a woman because I can't have a baby. It's always been my dream to have my own child and start my own family. While adoption is great, and I look forward to it one day, I can't seem to shake these feelings.

Adoption or Childbirth First

I'm wondering what you prefer. I'm glad I had my own child first because I learned a lot along the way. The teenager I decided to adopt later on really needed me to be stable and consistent and I don't think I could have offered all of that if I hadn't had the previous experience.

My name is Jess

Hello everyone. My name is Jess and I recently adopted a baby girl. It was a long, hard road but I've never been happier. I hope each of you here can find a child and start your new life with them soon. The wait is worth it! :)

You're never too old! :)

I'm a firm believer in adopting no matter your age. I do however, feel that people who are older should have a back up plan in case anything were to happen to them. As long as there is a good, stable plan in place, I don't see anything wrong with an elderly person adopting; as long as they are capable of taking proper care of the child.
